Kumite Testing

After completing the kata requirements, students are sent to the kumite board for the fighting portion of their test. The kumite Board is responsible for judging the student’s kumite (fighting) skills and self-defense techniques. Women have the option of performing self-defense alone (see the testing requirements for more information). Students are required to wear protective equipment including safety hands (chop type), feet, and shins, headgear, groin protection, chest protection and a mouthpiece. The kumite board has a pre-selected group of association members who will serve as fighters for the board. Test candidates will be required to fight one or more opponents from the board as well as others who are testing.

Once the fighting portion of the test is completed, students are excused. The test candidate’s Instructor will be notified of the results and will inform the student within a 2-week period.
